Why does an eclipse not occur every month as the Moon orbits the Earth?
Answer
The orbital plane of the Moon is slightly tilted relative to the Earths orbit around the Sun
While the Moon moves in a cycle around the Earth, the orbital plane of the Moon is not perfectly aligned with the Earth's orbital plane around the Sun. Because of this slight tilt, the three celestial bodies do not always align in a perfectly straight line, which prevents an eclipse from occurring during every monthly orbit.
